How to Make White Chocolate Popcorn:

  1. Prepare the popcorn based on the popcorn instructions.
  2. Spread out the popped popcorn in a single layer on a baking sheet.I suggest lining the pan with parchment paper before putting the microwave popcorn on it for super easy clean up. (Make sure to pick out any popcorn kernels.)
  3. Melt the white chocolate chips with the vegetable oil in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave at 30 second intervals until the chips are completely melted and smooth.
  4. Now you have to act quick. Then take a fork or a spoon and drizzle melted white chocolate over the popcorn.
  5. Allow the popcorn to cool so that the white chocolate re-hardens. Then break apart the popcorn and enjoy.

How do you melt white chocolate?

You can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate but I find that it’s much easier to melt in the microwave. Make sure that you use a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals so that you don’t accidentally burn the chocolate.

Also, you will need to add oil when melting the white chocolate. I find that white chocolate tends to clump when melting but adding the vegetable oil help the chocolate to be creamy and easier to drizzle onto the cooked popped corn.

Substitution Ideas:

I prefer white chocolate for this recipe but if you’re not a fan of white chocolate, you can also use milk or dark chocolate chips instead. Either will work great.

Also, you can use melting chocolate or almond bark instead of white chocolate chips. White chocolate chips are generally just more affordable at my local grocery store.

Also, you can use avocado oil or coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Just make sure that the oil has a high boiling point so that it does not burn in the microwave.

Topping Ideas:

This recipe is so fun and easy to jazz up with some of your favorite toppings to make it work for any event or any occasion. Here are some of our favorite ideas to top this popcorn recipe with.

  • Sprinkles – I love adding in sprinkles to celebrate the holidays.
  • More Chocolate Candy – Mix in some of your favorite chocolate candies. We love topping with M&Ms the best!
  • Nuts – Any type of nuts will add a nice salty crunch to this recipe as well.

You really can not go wrong with the toppings whichever way that you decide.

How much did this quick treat cost us?

I got my bagged popcorn on sale for $.50 (3 bags) which means one bag cost me $.17. The white chocolate cost me $1 for the bag, so I only used $.50 worth.

My total cost was under $1. Talk about a great treat for the family without spending a ton of money!

This is such a frugal treat and a great snack for a large family or to serve a large crowd. You do not have to worry about spending tons of money.

How to Store:

Store any leftover popcorn in an air tight container or bag at room temperature for up to 1 week.

However, I find that the popcorn is best fresh. The popcorn will become more chewy as it sits.

Everyone loves White Chocolate Popcorn:

It is the perfect salty sweet treat! You will love this easy recipe.

Sometimes we make it for movie night and it is delicious and so easy! If we are watching a movie I just put the popcorn in a large bowl and it is one of our favorite treats to enjoy.

A small amount of oil (like vegetable or canola oil) or butter can be added to the white chocolate as it's melting. The oil or butter will help to thin the melting chocolate, creating a perfect consistency for dipping or drizzling. I recommend using 2 teaspoons of oil or butter for every 8 ounces of chocolate.

What to dip in white chocolate? ›

Baked goods like chocolate brownie bites, Sephra's mini caramel cookies, mini chocolate cookies and squares of apple turnovers all taste even better when dipped in white chocolate for chocolate fountains.

How much popcorn does 1/2 cup make? ›

A 1/2 cup of dry popcorn kernels makes approximately 14 cups of popcorn. That makes the serving size very generous! One serving is roughly 3.5 cups of popcorn, so it's no wonder it's so filling!

Does soaking popcorn make it pop better? ›

To make your popcorn pop better, try soaking the kernels in a bowl of water for 10 minutes and then draining them. Then, pop the kernels as usual. The extra moisture added to the kernels helps produce larger and fluffier popcorn. Another option is to keep the lid ajar if you're popping your popcorn on the stove.

What is the secret to melting white chocolate? ›

Chop the White Chocolate: If you're using a bar, chop it into small, even pieces. This ensures uniform melting and prevents the chocolate from burning. Use Low Heat: Place the saucepan on the lowest heat setting. White chocolate is sensitive to high temperatures.

How to make white chocolate white? ›

It's not uncommon for white chocolate to appear slightly off-white or ivory instead of the pristine white you're aiming for. But fret not! With the simple addition of a dash of Chocolate Chameleon White, you can achieve that radiant, snowy-white look that will make your treats stand out.

Why won't my white chocolate melt? ›

Old white chocolate will not melt well; white chocolate tends to seize and turn grainy when it's past its best-by date.

What are the basic ingredients of white chocolate? ›

What Is White Chocolate Made Of? White chocolate is made of cocoa butter, sugar, milk solids, vanilla, and a fatty food additive called lecithin. When you're shopping for white chocolate, check the nutrition label to make sure it includes cocoa butter – some cheaper varieties use vegetable oil.

What ingredients are necessary for white chocolate? ›

White chocolate is made with a blend of sugar, cocoa butter, milk products, vanilla, and a fatty substance called lecithin. Technically, white chocolate is not a chocolate—and it doesn't really taste like one—because it doesn't contain chocolate solids.

What makes a good white chocolate? ›

"It should taste like good milk, fresh and clean, and it shouldn't be super sweet." The color shouldn't be white, but rather ivory or pale yellow—the color of cocoa butter. And in a really good sample, there should be some echoes of cocoa flavor and aroma from the cocoa butter.

Can you put too much oil in popcorn? ›

If you use too much oil, this can easily lead to poor popping results. The problem with too much oil is that the kernels end up swimming in the oil and roasting slowly instead of exploding into fully popped kernels. Also, do not pour in too many kernels with the oil.

Which oil is best for popcorn? ›

Two popular choices are canola and vegetable oil (both with a smoke point of 400 degrees Fahrenheit), thanks to their generally neutral flavor. Refined peanut oil (with a smoke point of 450 degrees Fahrenheit) is also recommended, especially if you like to infuse your popcorn with some of its nuttiness.

Should I pop popcorn in butter or oil? ›

Peanut Oil is our first choice for the most flavorful, rich, and buttery-like vegetable oil for popping popcorn. Coconut oil is a great choice as well. Clarified butter is another great choice for buttery popcorn. Regular butter will burn and smoke if used, so make sure it is clarified butter.

Why doesn't all my popcorn pop? ›

Moisture content: Popcorn kernels need to have a certain level of moisture in order to pop. If the kernel is too dry or too moist, it may not pop properly. Heat distribution: In order for a popcorn kernel to pop, it needs to be heated evenly. If the heat distribution is uneven, some kernels may not pop.

Why is my popcorn not popping all the way? ›

Regardless of how you pop your popcorn, it is important that you heat the kernels evenly. If you have your heat too high and don't agitate (or shake) your pan steadily, the kernels can be too still and you can burn one side of the kernel. That will mean your kernel will pop too early - or not pop at all.

Why didn't all my popcorn pop? ›

Popcorn kernels will not pop if they contain too little or too much water moisture inside the kernel. The popcorn kernels which do pop have 14-15% moisture in the hull and anything less or more will cause the popcorn kernel to not explode.

How to make all popcorn kernels pop in the microwave? ›

Add the popcorn kernels to a medium to large glass bowl (make sure it's tempered glass) and place a ceramic dinner plate on top of the bowl to act as a lid. Microwave for 3 to 5 minutes, then stop when you hear a few seconds between pops.
