Is Black Friday a good time to buy a mattress?
After working several holiday sales events and tracking prices each time, I can confidently say that yes, Black Friday is one of the best times to buy a mattress. And our Lab pros agree.
"While mattress companies offer discounts and sales throughout the year, a holiday weekend is when you'll see the most consistent and competitive offers across brands," explains Textiles, Paper & Apparel Lab Product Analyst Grace Wu. Mattress brands historically choose holiday weekends like Labor Day, Memorial Day, Presidents' Day and Black Friday.
Tempurpedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster had better savings during Labor Day, but there may be increased savings to be found during Cyber Weekend (November 29-December 2), so we recommend waiting until then to hit purchase, if you can.
Saatva Black Friday Sale
The deal: For this Black Friday, Good Housekeeping readers can take 20% off any of their Saatva orders (with a minimum $1,000 spend) by shopping through our exclusive link from November 8 to November 30.
Why we love it: “It’s our pick for the best overall mattress for its exceptional support and durability," Wu says. The brand even provides complimentary white-glove delivery and mattress removal, plus a generous 365-night trial (with a $99 pickup fee if you opt to return it) on all their mattresses, including memory foam, latex and hybrid offerings.
Our tests showed: Out of the hundreds and hundreds of mattresses our Lab pros have tested over the years, the Saatva Classic Mattress remains a consistent winner in tests and evaluations. Ranked as our best overall mattress, this innerspring pick excels at support, breathability and durability.

Bear Black Friday Mattress Deals
The deal: From November 19 to December 2, Good Housekeeping readers can receive a 40% exclusive discount with code GH40. Plus, enjoy two complimentary Cirrus Cloud Pillows with the purchase of any mattress while the deal lasts. This exclusive discount is better than their 35% sitewide sale with code EARLYBF for other shoppers. Bear offers a 120-day free trial period and free shipping within the continental U.S., but you'll have to pay $100 to $175 for a setup or removal service.
Why we love it: Hybrid mattresses are a popular pick, as they bridge the comfort of foam with the support of coils. Wu says if she had to recommend just one hybrid, it would be this one. "It's done incredibly well in our tests and won over a variety of different users," she shares. It's best for side and back sleepers.
Our tests showed: The pressure-relieving zones throughout this top-tested mattress are designed to promote proper spine alignment and provide cushioning for the hips and back to alleviate pain. This led to testers giving Bear's Elite Hybrid Mattress top scores in every category.

Helix Black Friday Sale
The deal: From November 1 to December 1, Good Housekeeping readers receive a 27% exclusive discount with code GH27, in addition to the option of two free bundles. Choose from two free Dream Pillows with a mattress purchase or a free bedding bundle (two Dream Pillows, a sheet set and a mattress protector) with a Luxe or Elite mattress purchase. If you're veering towards the latter option, one of our experts' favorite luxury mattresses is the brand's Midnight Elite mattress.
Why we love it: Out of Helix’s many mattresses (over 20!), Wu notes that the Dusk Luxe remains her favorite from the brand. There is even a 100-day free trial if you want to return the mattress with no strings attached.
Our tests showed: Helix's Dusk Luxe mattress is a consistent fan favorite among our testers. The hybrid model is suitable for all kinds of sleepers, especially for couples with different sleep styles. The pillowy feel and medium firmness can satisfy back, stomach and side sleepers. "It uses a foam that blends memory foam and latex for a responsive yet pressure-relieving feel," Wu says.

Purple Black Friday Deals
The deal: Right now, you can save up to $700 on Purple's mattresses or up to $1,000 when you add a Smart Base. The deal will last until December 9, and you can also save up to 20% on the brand's accessories during this time frame, like pillows and bedding, if you want to fully revamp your bed.
Why we love it: Purple’s GelFlex grid is a unique design that's unlike other mattresses in the industry. "It feels both responsive and cradling, combining the benefits of memory foam and latex," Wu says. She also recommends this mattress for hot sleepers, thanks to its inherent breathability and cooling capabilities.
Our tests showed: The elastic top layer feels squishy, but it is supportive and firm. It simultaneously provides pressure relief and motion isolation, so it's a great pick for couples.

Avocado Black Friday Deals
The deal: Starting November 13 and lasting through December 9 (for the brand's Cyber Week sale), save up to 20% — up to $1,540 — on all of Avocado's mattresses.
Why we love it: Our experts are huge fans of the Avocado Green Mattress, which is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS). Our pros ranked it as the best organic mattress from our testing and appreciate the brand's dedication to adhering to strict standards in the manufacturing process.
Our tests showed: This latex hybrid sleeps cool and is best for those who like fairly firm mattresses that conform to their bodies without feeling like you're sinking in too deep, which can happen with some memory foam mattresses. Testers in the past reported that the mattress distributes their body weight evenly to keep them in alignment, which is great for anyone with back pain.

Serta Black Friday Mattress Deals
The deal: While the original price is already excellent for a quality hybrid mattress, you can save $100 on the standard model of the Perfect Sleeper Hybrid Mattress and $200 on the enhanced version right now. Plus, if you choose a size and model that is $999 or above, you can receive a free Classic Bedding Bundle by adding the items to your cart, then using the code MATTRESSBUNDLE at checkout.
If you're looking for a different mattress from Serta, you're in luck: You can also save up to $800 on select mattresses and adjustable bases. This deal will run from November 5 to December 8 as a Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale.
Why we love it: This hybrid mattress is available in plush, medium and firm options with a 120-day free trial and delivery service.
Our tests showed: Our experts, testers and over 1,000 of our panelists were impressed with Serta's Perfect Sleeper Hybrid Mattress, giving it high marks for comfort and support.

Casper Black Friday Deals
The deal: From November 7 to December 4, take up to 30% off Casper's mattresses (including The Snow) and 35% off everything else, such as bedding and mattress bundles, pillows and adjustable bed frames. Casper's The One is another favorite of our experts, and it will be $799 for a Queen during the sale, which is $200 off its usual price.
Why we love it: The Casper Snow is an excellent pick for anyone who runs hot at night or is a side sleeper (or both!). It's made with breathable coils, cooling gel, a moisture-wicking cover and phase change materials (PCM), so it's great for those who experience night sweats.
Our tests showed: The cooling mattress has a hybrid design that utilizes a medium-soft memory foam to relieve pressure combined with cooling technology.

Mattress Firm Black Friday Deals
The deal: You can save $400 (that's 35% off!) on the Posturepedic Hybrid mattress throughout the month of November for Black Friday.
Why we love it: Sealy's Posturepedic Hybrid Lacey (available in both Plush and Firm) is a favorite of GH Associate Textiles Director Emma Seymour, who refers to it as "the Goldilocks of mattresses." The solid hybrid design also offers excellent motion isolation, so it's a great pick for couples.
Our tests showed: We surveyed over 500 owners of a Sealy mattress and many reported that the hybrid model offers enough softness and firmness that it's comfortable while still being supportive without causing you to sink in or feel like you're laying on a hard surface.

Sleep Number Black Friday Deals
The deal: Beginning November 12 and lasting until December 2, you can save $1,200 (a 30% discount) on the i8, which is one of our experts' favorite cooling mattresses. If you're looking for a less expensive option, 2024 Good Housekeeping Bedding Award winner Sleep Number's C2 is marked down to $1,000, which is $300 off its original price. The brand is also offering BOGO 50% on all sheet sets, pillows, and their DualTemp Layer.
Why we love it: Featuring air-filled chambers with the option to adjust the firmness of each side of the bed, this mattress is suitable for side, stomach or back sleepers and couples with different preferences of softness and support in their beds.
Our tests showed: Our tester gave it top marks and called it an “extraordinary upgrade," thanks to its adjustability, edge support and appearance.
Keep in mind that you must use one of Sleep Number's bases (standard or adjustable) for any of these mattresses, but if you’re willing to wait, we’ve noticed that the brand often throws in free home delivery (typically $249) as we get closer to the holiday weekend with the purchase of both a mattress and a base.

Amazon: Tuft & Needle Black Friday Sale
The deal: Tuft & Needle recently updated its best-selling original mattress (which we’re in the process of testing), but the 2022 version is currently 25% off, bringing it down to the lowest price we've seen all year.
Why we love it: This pick is one of our experts' favorite foam mattresses, and they recommend it to hot sleepers and people who prefer a medium-firm feel.
Out tests showed: "Unlike some foam mattresses, this one is a little more responsive, though, based on our evaluations, it’ll still contour and conform nicely to your body," Wu says.

Expert tips for finding Black Friday mattress deals
- Sometimes, it's worth it to splurge. Remember: Sleep is important. Quality sleep at night can influence the course of your entire day — physically and mentally. So, it may be worth splurging a bit on a mattress that sounds right for you, but shopping during Black Friday will help bring that price down and keep some cash in your wallet.
- Don't just buy something because it's a good deal. "My advice to shoppers is do some research in general to find a few different options (generally 3 to 5 styles) you genuinely like the sound of and check back in for sales," said Wu.
- Wait until Black Friday if you can. My two cents as an avid deal-hunter: while you should keep your eyes peeled on early deals, the best absolute mattress savings typically happen on or closer to Black Friday. Plus, many of these brands will have similar sales (if not, better) in honor of Cyber Monday. These sales will most likely last through the first week of December, coined as Cyber Week by brands.
